    Starched organdy dress, 1865. Typical of mid-19th century styling, worn by Marianna Heyward (b. 1844) when she married Benjamin Walter Taylor on December 14, 1865. They had 8 children, including early 20th century artist Anna Heyward Taylor. During the Civil War, Benjamin had served as a surgeon, becoming the Medical Director of the Calvary Corps of the Army of Northern VA. Charleston Museum.

    1862 American straw bonnet, height 9.5"x7" civil war era fashion

    Victorian 1860s Civil War Cotton Print Dress in white and aqua. This lovely gown is a one-piece dress with an inset waistband, gathered skirt, and 3 tiers of flounces on the skirt. The bodice yoke is drawn up on tiny cords, the collar has a lace edging, the small white buttons are thread work over wood forms. The interior cotton bodice close with brass hooks and has hand done broderie anglaise on the wide straps.
