Install a partial height pocket door as a dog gate - what a great idea! would also work as baby gate

Better yet: Make it a full pocket door, BUT, cut the door in half and install hardware that will allow you to open just the bottom; think Dutch door... for the next house you build - Pocket gate for kids or pets. One of the best ideas I've ever seen. I could see doing this instead of a baby gate between the kitchen and living room area or the basement stairs etc.

I've used pocket doors for small spaces like powder rooms, & laundry rooms & closets. Make sure that smaller nails or hangers are used to hang things on the walls in front of the hidden door pocket.

These beautiful stained-glass doors echo the bold Craftsman-style kitchen tiles, lending an elegant touch to both rooms. When the doors are open, the rooms function as one space, but once they're closed, the dining room becomes a more intimate setting. (Photo: Photo: Roger Hardy)
