Have the students make their writing "more colorful" by using paint strips. Write a boring adjective at the bottom of the paint strip on the most boring color. Give each student a paint strip and they can use a thesaurus or a word wall to think of "more colorful" words for their strip. Put the best word on the brightest part of the strip. Hang all of their strips on the door and they can use those words to help "make their writing colorful!" Another neat paint chip idea. :-)

SO many things you can use paint samples for in the classroom! Write a boring adjective at the bottom of the paint strip on the most boring color. Comic Strip Writing - Great for motivating kids to write!

After we created our list, I had the kids make a “Spider Sandwich” poem using 3 verbs and 3 adjectives that are “sandwiched” between the word SPIDER. After writing their poems, I painted their hands to make little handprint spiders. I LOVE handprint art!!! And I used reinforcement stickies for the eyes.

Writing center word strips, this is such a fabulous idea! No more, "Teacher, how do you spell..." all afternoon. A little bit of a crutch, so they would have to eventually be weened off.
