With over 10,000 performances in its history, the Paramount Theater has seen lots of performers and audiences. Previously this land was occupied by the Republic of Texas War Department and later a hotel. With such a rich history, it’s not surprising to find stories of ghost or spirits. On your next visit, you might see the lady in white on the mezzanine or glimpse the gentleman dressed in early 20th century attire smoking his cigar or smell his cigar smoke. Sadly, life at Liendo, had its tragedies. Young son, Arthur, died of diphtheria and was cremated in a fireplace to stop the spread of the disease. The Tavern is a popular Austin spot for food and drink at the corner of 12th and Lamar. Legend says the second floor served as a speakeasy and brothel during prohibition. Many believe that area is still inhabited by Emily, a resident of prohibition times, who was either a waitress, prostitute, or young girl, depending upon your choice of ghost story. Some see her gazing from a window, while others think she is the playful spirit behind pinches, phantom pool games, and changed tv channels.

The Tavern is part of Austin's history. The Tavern came to exist in 1933 and has been serving up good times ever since!

On the afternoon of November 22, 1902, General Frederick Dent Grant (President Grant's son and Commander of the Department of Texas) arrived in Austin for a visit. Part of the festivities called for a cannon salute from the Capitol lawn. Unfortunately, one of the cannons fired prematurely causing severe injuries and later death to Bob Roberts, the man who had been swabbing the cannon and ramming in powder for the next shot. Goliad's Presidio La Bahìa has a storied and sometimes violent past. Visions of women dressed all in white or black and a friar in a dark robe have been seen. "Those who know Presidio La Bahia well whisper of hearing the cries of infants rising from unmarked graves beside the presidio chapel; voices chanting in unknown tongues; organ music, a soprano's song, a women's choir" or the "moans and cries from the killing fields where Fannin and his men met their doom."
