American Apparel's Gorgeous New Model Is The Opposite Of A Hipster Teen

We usually have to do some preventative squinting whenever we click over to the American Apparel website (assault by crotch shots — it's not something we need in our e-commerce experience). So, it was a much nicer surprise to see that their newest model is someone who actually looks comfortable

American Apparel’s newest model, age 62. "There was something so compelling about Jacky’s look and energy when we first spotted her in a New York restaurant this winter, we introduced ourselves and pulled up a chair. During a long discussion that touched on everything from career choices and nutrition to insights on relationships, age and beauty, we asked if she would consider being photographed by us. We were thrilled when she agreed."

Just because you age doesn't mean you have to cater what you wear to that. Wear what makes you happy and what you feel good in, not what you think other people will accept.

How This 63-Year-Old Model Stays Gorgeous #refinery29 You talk about being "pro-age." What's behind this philosophy? "We all grow up in an anti-age society. Aging is considered a negative experience. As I — and most of my generation, the Baby Boomers — am finding is that life and you get better as time goes by. You become more self-aware, more experienced, skilled, educated, discerning, and more aware. Life continues to be an adventure, and you continue to be a passionate, feeling, emotional creature. It is time to switch our anti-ageism to pro-age."What, or who, is beautiful to you? "Joy, kindness, compassion, gratitude. Nature, innocence, wisdom."

Look for that beauty in all women, and find it in yourself. It's there. Aging is just another word for living.

When people started stopping me about my clothes I thought, I've been through feminism, racism, all the prejudices... I'm an activist and Ageism is the last bastion.'" And no shits were given that day! I want to meet these two in a bar, buy them drinks and learn from them!
