Bulletin Board Idea
working my butt off!!! (don't you wish that actually worked? i mean, if that were true, after the time i've put into my room this week, i'd be nearly invisible!) i was moved from 2nd grade to 5th grade, so i needed to revamp my room and decor. (somewhat for the older students...but mostly for me.) so, here's a tour of my room... i finally made some banners and my sweet hubby helped me hang them up. i've also started collecting vintage globes. see the giant one in the middle? given to me by a fellow teacher.my check-in chart. students pull their card out when they arrive. (quick and easy attendance) i also plan to use this chart in some way to monitor bathroom breaks. i used to use it for my 2nd graders in order to track behavior, but i think my 5th graders will laugh at me if i ask them to turn their card. my writing center. i ordered 3 more inflatable globes to fill in this area a bit more. i wanted a theme that would last for a few years...i'm not much for picking a new theme each year...so i went with maps/globes/travel. spelling station. monthly books. estimation station. my classroom rules. simple and sweet. also, my "skills board". i will record standards being taught and vocab for each subject. i sectioned it off with electrical tape, and my kind friend, sarah, cut the titles out with her cricut. homework board. i just covered a piece of foam core board with dry erase paper. sectioned it off with electrical tape and labeled with scrapbook stickers. thanks to my pinterest obsession, i made a quote to go above my main board. all letters were purchased at 50% off from hobby lobby. part of my reading area. you might recognize the canvas i made. the little frames will showcase photos of my students of the month. i covered two of my bulletin boards with old book covers. (again, thanks to pinterest.) it might be hard to notice, but there are 12 bulldog clips hanging on the board. students will display work they're proud of and swap it out weekly. my favorite pic!!! remember the dark blue couch from above? the one with the babyish circus animals and dots? my final project today was to make a slipcover for it. (i used 2 clearance tablecloths from target.) i must admit, i was rather bummed when i found out about my grade level switch. but, after working in my room all week, i'm finally starting to get excited about my new kiddos! (although i'm still in denial that they come back next wednesday.)

Different from the standard blue or red pocket charts. This site has other great products, too!
I found it at www.mardel.com. It's called a 'filetastic'. The best part is that it comes in black and zebra. (I hate the traditional red and blue of pocket charts.) You can also get some super cute file folders at this website. There are 12 pockets on this file. Here are what I plan to use them for: 1. multiple class record lists (put a post-it on the last one saying it's the last copy) 2. extra new student packets (like you give at the beginning of the year) 3. lunch folder (we...

It may sound silly, but one of my all time FAQs has been, "Where did you get your black pocket charts?" And when I say Frequently Asked I mean a few emails every single day. This picture from this post tends to get pinned a lot so me thinks that is where the question often originates. If any of the bigwig teacher supply manufacturers out there are reading this, there is money to be made in black pocket charts. It seems like everyone wants one (or 8) of them. Here's the sad, sad tale. I bought them a few years (actually if I remember correctly it was the year I came back from maternity leave so circa 2006) in the Target Dollar Spot. I know, right? A DOLLAR!!!! I did search the world over. Well, I searched the internet anyhow. Here's the best I could come up with for you... Mardell's has a black pocket chart, for holding file folders. Not quite what y'all have been looking for, but it's nice. I also found a tutorial for a "DIY Pocket Chart" if you feel like getting your craft on. I am getting ready to leave for school. We are starting our third day. So far, things have gone really well. The only issue that I am having is that as the week progresses, the more difficult it is for me to get out of bed. I am SO tired! We are having a BLAST getting to know each other, though. I have a really sweet group. :) Recently, I have received several emails and blog post comments on where to purchase a black file folder chart, so I thought I would just blog about it. I must say that I, myself had trouble finding them, but I emailed one of my blogging buddies and she sent me in the right direction. If you are interested in the black file folder pocket chart, you can purchase one at www.mardel.com. You can click on the picture below and it will take you straight to the item. I have also ordered a black calendar pocket chart. It should be arriving ANY day. You can purchase this at www.mathlearningcenter.org. Click on the picture below to take you directly to the item. Last, but not least, I am super excited to announce that my girls, Krista and Julie, from The Reading Olympians are running a 50% off sale on ALL of the items in their store, including their Reading Olympians program that focuses on Greek and Latin roots. I plan to implement this program in my classroom and will be blogging about it throughout the year. To learn more about this program, please visit their site at http://www.thereadingolympians.com/ To check out their AWESOME products in their store, click on the picture below. I hope that you take advantage of this super sale! :) Well, I am off to school! Have a great Wednesday!

Teacher Organization Day is Monday and all the little darlings will start filling the hallways that evening for back to school night. School starts Tuesday! Excited! Anxious! Nervous! Butterflies in the belly! Why does this happen every year, even after teaching for quite some time now?!?!? I don't think it will ever go away. You want to be great! You want the kids to love you, but you also want to set the stage in a way they will learn routine and develop respect for you. Such a critical time. My absolute favorite part of back to school is getting my room ready and organized. I have worked hard on my classroom transformation. Put TONS of time into getting everything just where I want it and loving my new look. I want to share some of my new decor and classroom ideas. I have tried to provide links to the different products around the room. Here goes.... Alphabet is by Erica Bohrer and the comprehension strategies & skills posters are by A Cupcake for the Teacher. Classroom library organization is inspired by Beth Newingham 2nd Grade Common Core Essential Questions, CAFE, & Daily 5 materials can be found at my TpT store by clicking here. I get many products from Amy Lemons. You will see many of her materials in my classroom. She is my go to girl for 2nd Grade. LOVE her! Math Lab labels and recording sheets can be found at my store by clicking here. Writing wall materials are A Cupcake for the Teacher and Lori Rosenberg. Polka dot table numbers and the behavior chart can be found at my TpT store by clicking here. The table numbers are also available in CHEVRON! I know I will be praying for an amazing year for my students, their parents, all teachers out there and my sanity! Ha ha! Enjoy your back to school events and God bless!

I love the idea of each group having their own bookshelf, tissue box, hand sanitizer, and trash can. Best organized classroom ideas I've seen so far!
This could be very useful once the kids learn how to use it, however, I know that I would want more than just a few little boxes and I don't know that putting them on the wall would be the best idea because then you have to worry about whether or not you are using strong enough card stock that will hold to the wall while keeping the papers from not spilling all over the floor.

Here are just some of the ideas I use in my classroom to help keep my students organized: Each student has a "Work in Progress" Folder in their desk. They use this folder to put any unfinished work in. Anytime throughout the day that they have time, they are to get this folder out and finish any work in it. This really helps the students keep from shoving papers in their desk. I really don't let the students keep much in their desk. They have their "Work in Progress" folder, journal, 1 book, headphones, and pencil box with crayons. Any other additional supplies are kept in my supply bins. They will get the supplies only when they need them and then put them back. Around December the name tags on the student desks start to look horrible. They start peeling up and coming off. I take them off the desks and the students just use the number on the back of their chair to know where they sit. They store their center folders (yellow for literacy centers and blue for math centers) in their numbered spot on the pocket chart. These pencil bins prevent the students from sharpening their pencils in the middle of your lesson. This is the restroom break system I have. When the green sign is posted the students may move their number next to the restroom sign and take the pass and go. If the red sign is up, then they may not leave the classroom to take a break. Unless of course it is an emergency. This prevents students from raising their hand and asking to go to the restroom in the middle of your lesson. These bins are used to place each students work in after it is graded. The students take home their graded work placed in their numbered spot at the end of each week. I purchased these bins at Sams. These numbered bags are used to place different student materials in that you might need in the middle of a lesson. Instead of having to pass out each of the supplies you can have what each student needs in their bag at all times. They just grab their bag and come to the carpet or to their desk. It makes things so easy! I bought these bags from Oriental Trading. I dicut the numbers out of material and then had my mom sew them on. These are the student portfolios I keep during the school year. I put important paperwork, progress reports, daily work, etc. in each of the student's portfolio. To keep the papers divided by month I have the students color each cardstock paper divider and then place it into their portfolio. Each student has a daily binder that goes home each day with important information, notes, etc. The calendar shows important events and the student's behavior for that day. I hope you enjoyed looking at my ideas. If you have any questions on how I do things, please let me know!
