Whenever I see this picture, I think of the Plain White T's song "Rhythm of Love". I always imagined the song being about this picture: a soldier coming home to his girl, and having to leave the very next day, and him dancing with her, holding her tight, and kissing away her tears until daybreak. My idea of true love. :)
V-J Day in Times Square is a photograph by Alfred Eisenstaedt that portrays an American sailor kissing a young nurse in a white dress on Victory over Japan Day (V-J Day) in Times Square, New York City, on August 14, 1945. One of my favorite pictures of all time
NYC. Times Square, August 14, 1945 (V-J Day) "Sailor kissing a nurse celebrating the surrender" by Alfred Eisenstaedt. / The photographer took 4 shots in 10 seconds. This is the only one in which you can see a girl just behind the sailor's arm. She is Rita, his real girlfriend, watching the scene. This has been a conclusive proof to find out the real sailor among several "candidates".
