stained glass water tower. why can't the whole world be full of pretty like this? #rainbow #stainedglass #water
Stained Glass Water Towers Street art is nothing new – but this incredible outdoor intervention by Brooklyn based artist Tom Fruin most definitely is. Watertower, a 20-foot tall piece, is currently shining like a beacon across Dumbo (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) in New York City, from its vantage point atop a defunct water tower platform. The brilliant structure was created from discarded and recycled materials, including more than 1,000 salvaged pieces of Plexiglas.

Birthdays of Poets. From 2005 to 2009 the River Junction Poets hosted Poets Birthday Readings at the Barnes & Noble bookstore in Saginaw (MI) to read and discuss poets and poetry. Events were planned around the birthdays of poets; the bookstore mentioned our events in its monthly Newsletter. When we sent a birthday card to the poet we celebrated, we included the Newsletter that mentioned the event. Several of those poets responded with Thank You notes.
Date: Early to mid-1880s Place: Philadelphia Photographer: Thomas Eakins Note: This photo group is part of Eakins's "naked series" and is labeled simply "Old man, seven photographs." The model bears a striking resemblance to Whitman; for a plausible case that this may be a photo of Whitman "undisguised and naked," see Ed Folsom, "Walt Whitman's 'Calamus' Photographs" in Betsy Erkkila and Jay Grossman, Breaking Bounds: Whitman and American Cultural Studies

Don’t go to Jon Kessler’s The Blue Period at Salon 94 Bowery if you don’t like to be watched. Actually, if surveillance makes you nervous, you should probably move to the remote landscape of Antarctica, because at least in Kessler’s installation the cameras are visible. The thousands of CCTV units that constantly film us in the streets and buildings of New York are not. Yet beyond just reminding us that privacy is dwindling, we see that there’s the trade-off in The Blue Period for enjoyable v...
