"Cultural appropriation is the process of "borrowing" and changing the meaning of cultural products, slogans, images or elements of fashion." In America there is a large Cultural appropriation of the Native American Culture. In this photo you can see a clearly Caucasian woman wearing a knock-off of a traditional headdress. This woman is probably wearing the headdress because it looks "cool" when in reality the headdresses are worn by men who have earned the right to wear them.

++++++ TRUDELL (2005) ++++++ John Trudell (Santee Sioux) was a spokesperson for the Indian occupation of Alcatraz Island 1969 -1971, and Chairman of the American Indian Movement (AIM) 1973-1979. In February of 1979, a fire of unknown origin killed his wife, three children and mother-in-law. It was through this tragedy that Trudell began writing "to stay connected to this reality."
