This portrait of Abraham Lincoln during his presidency was taken by Mathew Brady who shaped the role of photographers as national historians. Trachtenberg speaks to a sitter's pose as being expressive of their social role. Lincoln, a U.S. President, sits poised and strong in the chair as to create the conventional image of his role. (Hummel)
Abraham Lincoln - Matthew Brady photo. Lincoln was a superb leader, unswerving in his goal of restoring and preserving the Union. He also used his skills as a speaker to great advantage. His inaugural speeches and his Gettysburg Address are masterpieces of American oratory.

Mathew Brady, United States presidential election of 1864: Lincoln, 1864. This photo is a portrait of President Abraham Lincoln. Brady was not known specifically for his portraits, but instead for his documentation through photography. Mathew Brady was the pioneer of using photography to show war. However, though Brady's photos where good pictures, he went bankrupt after the war because no one wanted anything to do with the war, they just wanted to forget it.

In 1862, President Abraham Lincoln ordered the execution by hanging of 38 Dakota sioux prisoners in Mankato, Minnesota. Some were as young as 17. Most of those executed were medicine men or political leaders of their camps. All were innocent of the crimes they were accused of. It was the largest mass execution in USA history.

Abraham lincoln also known as Abe was our sixteenth president! He led us through the civil war and ended slavery! He sadly though lived a short life because he was asassinated by John Wilkes Booth while he was watching a comedy play "Our American Cousin"! He lived from February 12, 1809 to April 15, 1865. And now today we see him and remember him every time we spend a penny.

"The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country." President Abraham Lincoln, in his annual message to Congress, December 1, 1862 in which he once again announced his intention of abolishing slavery within the United States. The Civil War Parlor
Entering the presidential nomination process as a distinct underdog, Lincoln was eventually chosen as the Republican candidate for the 1860 election for several reasons. His expressed views on slavery were seen as more moderate than those of rivals William H. Seward and Salmon P. Chase. His "Western" origins also appealed to the newer states: other contenders, especially those with more governmental experience, had acquired enemies within the party and were weak in the critical western states.
