Gorgon, Day 10.5 I think I may leave the rest of the face open and not put pebbles there. I will be filling in the space between the letters at the bottom but I want to give the thinset a chance to dry first. Doing the lettering is a little tedious because I want people to actually be able to read it, so I spent a lot of time placing pebbles, looking at them, asking my friends to look at them before continuing.

Gorgon, Day 7: I filled in the right ear, right cheek, the hair above the forehead on the right, and started filling in both eyes. So much of the hard part is done. The only detail left is the hair on the left side of the head, the left wing and the hair between the snake and the lower left side of the face. Then I tackle the lettering and fill in the empty space with large pebbles before I grout it. I have three weeks left. I can totally do this.

Wow! We always have things posted on our fridge. How fun to create mini photo magnets out of bottle caps that will serve a dual purpose -- display photos while holding up school artwork or to-do lists!

Gorgon, Day 11 The letters are done and I think they are legible. I filled in some of the areas between the wings and the head on each side. Once I get the larger pebbles even on each side, I can start using smaller pebbles to frame the words at the top, and then in between the letters. The goal is to have this grouted a week from today so it will have time to cure before sealing and then put it in a van to go across country in 12 days. I can do that!

Gorgon, day 12. I'm done gluing pebbles, unless some of them come off when I clean it up. I have to let the thinset dry and then I can make sure I scrape off any that's covering up pebbles where it shouldn't be. Then I have to grout it and seal it and it'll be done. Stay tuned . . .

Gorgon, Day 9 I decided to work on the mosaic tonight instead of doing laundry. I think it was a good decision. I filled in the left wing, the curls on the left side of the head and the area under the nose. Oh, I also filled in the right eye and started the letters on the bottom. With the letters, I've started filling in every other one so I don't smudge the one next to it. Tomorrow I'll start on the lettering above the gorgon!

I did more of the black outline, and filled in the snake on the right. I have to be careful and do a section on the right and then move to the left so I don't accidentally smudge the wet thinset. I've decided to keep using the lead tape for all of the 'hair' on the gorgon and maybe the 'feathers' in the wing section to keep it consistent. Oh, and I used a pastry bag to spread the thinset this time and it worked so well! It seems that sorting the big bag of smaller pebbles was worth…
