Have kids draw themselves on little circles on the first day. Copy & cut them to paste around a new page- use for a newsletter template. What a fantastic Idea! That would look so great for class announcements etc.
Use a cover slip when collecting assignments. Grade the assignment, record the grade on the cover slip, then pass the papers back to students. No alphabetizing papers for the grade book. You can also see at a glance who didn't turn work in.
It's called a "Blurt Chart". If students blurt out they take a happy face off the chart (they are velcroed on). They have 3 chances throughout the day. You can take minutes away from recess, etc. for each happy face taken off the chart.
The Birthday Cheer!…Also, have students work on a page to create a “Happy Birthday” book for the birthday student for morning work instead of the traditional assignment that morning. Since the birthday kid doesn’t need to create a page, he/she gets to
Brownie Points the class reward system. When the class gets a compliment from someone other than their teacher for good behavior they will earn a brownie for their pan. When the pan gets full of brownies the class gets a special treat.
