Whale Rider - What a beautiful film; I highly recommend it. I've read the book too and suggest it as well. The Maori have a fascinating culture. I am thrilled this movie showed some of their unique traditions and shared a few stories important to their heritage.
Yes, I know it's the movie poster, and the movie is great, but you know what this book is? A better guide for women than Twilight or 50 Shades of Grey. Seriously, ladies, you have control of your own lives, get married for love, stay home if it's your safe place, go adventure if your soul moves you, and don't settle for anything less than what you want. Boom!
Shawshank Redemption. A practically perfect movie. Not a shot is wasted by Frank Darabont and the performances by Tim Robbins & Morgan are of quiet assurance, not exaggerated screen grabbers. Underrated by theatre goers appreciated subsequently, one of the greatest movies of all time.
Throughout this film, you want the family so badly to get back together and so when they do, you feel immense elation. A testament to the film making of this story, from the acting (brilliant on Naomi Watts, Ewen McGregor and Tom Holland part), dialogue, and those amazing shots of the tsunami, it delivers the heart of the true story behind this and ends up being incredibly moving.
The Patriot Movie - a 2000 historical action drama starring Mel Gibson, Heath Ledger and Joely Richardson. It tells the story of a peaceful farmer, Benjamin Martin, who is driven to lead the Colonial Militia during the American Revolution when a sadistic British officer murders his son. Incredible Cinematography! (PG-15)
Keisha Castle-Hughes, New Zealand actor in lead role of "Whale Rider" (2002) portraying a young Maori girl who is imbued with the spirit of the legendary Paikea, and fights to fulfil her destiny www.imdb.com/title/tt0298228/
'Dr Zhivago'. This is one of my absolute favourite films of all time. Omar Sharif sent my heart aflutter when I first watched this!! Loved all his films, but this and Lawrence of Arabia are my favourites.
