Holbein sketch a gorgeous one of a Tudor woman

'A Young English Woman' - by Hans Holbein the Younger, 16th century | One of the fortunate people in history to have successfully worked for King Henry VIII and retained their life, Hans Holbein the Younger became court painter to the King through his acquaintance with Anne Boleyn and Thomas Cromwell; this was a particularly surprising feat considering both met their end at Tower Hill.-
A Young Englishwoman, by Hans Holbein, 1526–8 or about 1532–5. - I'm curious about the way she's got her dress pulled up it almost looks like braces.

Viking Clothing - Women usually wore an under-dress, a dress and an apron. Boots were made of leather. Women hung items from utility chains that were attached to brooches they wore at the top of their aprons, & from belts around their waists. They wore coats & cloaks.

18th Century: Riding Coat ca. 1760 Met Museum
Riding coat | Great Britain, circa 1760 | Materials: silk, goat hair | Unlike the intricate embroideries and luscious silks of 18th century men's formal costume, sporting ensembles of the period, specifically the man's equestrian uniform echoed the more somber ornamental vein of British dress | Sporting clothing usually exhibited a modest tonality, and was often executed in wool for its warmth, practicality, and durability | The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
18thcentury: Riding Coat ca. 1760 Met Museum Cool.
Coat from a Riding Habit (c. 1760), currently located at the Metropolitan Museum, Accession #1976.147.1. I want to make a reproduction of this coat. It has a lot of really fun details, like the blue silk turn backs over the mariner's cuff on the sleeve. And the full ball buttons all over the place, based on the pictures, I think there are 36 of them.

The Coronation Portrait by an Unknown Artist, c.1600. (National Portrait Gallery)
Queen Elizabeth, Vestment, Elizabethan, England, Anne Boleyn, Dresses, King Henry Viii, Coronation Portraits, Elizabeth I
'The Coronation Portrait of Queen Elizabeth I', depicted at the age of 25. Thought to be a 17th century copy from a lost original Queen regnant of England and Ireland from 17 November 1558 until her death. Sometimes called "The Virgin Queen", "Gloriana" or "Good Queen Bess", Elizabeth was the fifth and last monarch of the Tudor dynasty. Born: September 7, 1533, Greenwich Died: March 24, 1603, Richmond Palace, London Buried: Henry VII Chapel Parents: Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII of England
Queen Elizabeth I of England in Coronation Robes.
Elizabeth I at her coronation...daughter of King Henry VIII and his eventually headless wife, Anne Boleyn, (quite the stormy love story there), very well educated, spoke many languages, tried to bring her Catholic and Protestant country into balance, repelled the French, Spanish, and Scots, made England a world power during her reign, ruled longer than any other English monarch ( so far ) the present Queen Elizabeth II may challenge that, and remains to this day one of the most fascinating women in history.
Elizabeth I (7 September 1533 – 24 March 1603) ~ 5th & last Tudor monarch. She was the only child of Henry VIII & Anne Boleyn. One of her first moves as queen was the establishment of an English Protestant church, after her sister Mary I's Catholic rule. She never married and never had any childen. She was known as "The Virgin Queen" and her reign is known as "The Golden Age" . After she died, the crown went to James VI of Scotland, ending the Tudor dynasty. #TheTudors #ElizabethI

Elizabeth I by an Unknown Artist, c. 1585. (Elizabethan Club of Yale) Pinner note: Dress is very much of the 1570s with the flatter shoulder wing. The hairstyle is more 1580s/90s - therefore the painting must have been altered later to update the fashion. I still think of this from neck down as being 1570s or thereabouts. Nice green gown.
