There really is so much math in music, and an activity like this can connect music and math. Not only will students be working on their counting skills, they will also have the opportunity to think about the concepts of 1/2 and whole (an 8th note is half as long as a 1/4 note/ a half note is half as long as a whole note) and greater than/less than/equal to (two quarter notes equal one half note, a whole note is greater than a half note).
