We can also come up with a plan for schools to 'opt out' of USDA food programs in order that our children be fed healthy foods.

A Letter to My College Friends Doing Teach for America
The Color of School Closures: Mass school closings have become a hallmark of today's dominant education policy agenda. But as U.S. Department of Education data suggests, the most recent rounds of mass closings in Chicago, NYC and Philadelphia disproportionately hurt Black and low-income students.
Teachers Association ...WHY?????
Mass school closings have become a hallmark of today's dominant education policy agenda. But rather than helping students, these closures disrupt whole communities. And as U.S. Department of Education data suggests, the most recent rounds of mass closings in Chicago, New York City and Philadelphia disproportionately hurt Black and low-income students.
WHY ARE WE NOT SURPRISED? Because this is viewed as "normal" in America and we shoud be outraged! As long as it's not affecting my child, why should I care? Are you kidding? In this economy, nobody's future is certain and our crumbling public school system could become your child's reality one day. Folks, you better get your heads out of the sand and wake-up before it's too late. History has taught us (and, continues to teach us) that what affects some us will eventually affect all of us!
