Boué Soeurs - Court presentation dress 1920s - An example of the silhouette known as a "robe de style," in which interior boning widens the skirt at either side, the dress was custom-made in the Boué Soeurs atelier. The lamé fabric, paired with a virtuoso examples of ribbon work, identify its couture origins. The elaborate craftsmanship of these elegant ornaments, arranged in a floral basket design, are a characteristic feature of gowns made by the sisters.

Court Presentation Ensemble, Boué Soeurs (French): 1928, French, silk, metallic threads. Marking: [label] "Boué Soeurs/9 rue de la Paix/13 West 56th Street, New York"
Court Presentation Ensemble - Boué Soeurs 1928. The costume, worn by Mrs.George Henry O’Neil for presentation before George V has a train, headdress and fan, all made to conform to the dress rules that governed the occasion. The train is detachable so that the dress could be worn for dancing after the ceremonies had concluded. Though the robe style silhouette, with its structural panniers, is reminiscent of the 18c. 1920s.
