    Darrell Royal (1924-2012), University of Texas football coach, 1957 to 1976. In 23 years as a coach, Royal never had a losing season., His record at UT, 167-47-5, was the best in the nation over that period. Royal's Longhorns won 11 Southwest Conference titles, 10 Cotton Bowl championships, and two national championships, in 1963 and 1969. (They shared the national title with Nebraska in 1970.) Royal was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1983.
