SBG thinks this is a great way to get a feel for pebble mosaic with river rocks on their sides into soil, to see if you want to make something more complicated in concrete.

pebble mosaic -- This is a good idea for creating a place to step near a water spicket in your flower beds so that you don't crush your plants when trying to turn on the hose. Also, if you mix powdered cement into the soil and water to set the stones, then you'll be less likely to get mud all over your clothes/shoes when turning the water on and off if you have a leaky spicket.

Much nicer mosaic than all those kept in place by loads of visible cement. Riffing on this could make something interesting for under an outdoor faucet.

Under the faucet - river rock, but easy to step on; maybe a round stepping stone instead of a plant

Baking soda neutralizes the ph in the soil and nothing will grow there. use baking soda around all of the edges of flower beds to keep the grass and weeds from growing into beds. Just sprinkle it onto the soil so that it covers it lightly. Do this twice a year – spring and fall. @ Do It Yourself Pins
