The Ice Queen by Alice Hoffman. Alice Hoffman is at her electrifying best in this fairy tale for grown-ups. The story begins with a little girl who makes a wish one snowy night and ruins her life. She grows up with a splinter of ice in her heart until one day, standing by her kitchen window, she is struck by lightning. Instead of killing her, this cataclysmic event sparks off a new beginning. She seeks out Lazarus Jones, a fellow lightning survivor...
One of my very favourite books.

Our book club had a great discussion about The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I loved the book AND the movie.
The Help: Movie Tie-In by Kathryn Stockett, http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002YKOXB6/ref=cm_sw_r_pi_dp_rnCFpb0EB6JEA
Oh, this was good. I've seen the movie, too.Our very own "BGHS '63 Book Club" The Help - Kindle edition by Kathryn Stockett. Literature & Fiction Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.
The Help. A recent book club selection. It was an incredible read...I laughed, I cried...literally. The emotional attachment I felt to the characters was amazing. It's unbelievable that this is the author's first novel. FYI, while the movie was good in it's own right, there really is no comparison: The book is BETTER! (no surprise there!)
Loved it so much I HAD to go see the movie!! The Help by Kathryn Stockett, http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002YKOXB6/ref=cm_sw_r_pi_dp_Z7lNsb1ANFN71
The Help by Kathryn Stockett. This is also the first movie I have ever seen that may be better than the book.
The Help by Kathryn Stockett- I LOVED this book. Read it in one day about a year and a half before the movie came out. The movie is good too, but books are ALWAYS better

The Poisonwood Bible: A Novel by Barbara Kingsolver - SUCH a good book. About a missionary family in Africa. It's not "religious", and remember that it's a novel, not a true-life accounting of a missions trip. But well written and very interesting. It's been years since I read this one. I don't even remember what happens. Time to read it again!

A 39 year old stay-at-home mom hits her head in the gym, causing her to forget the previous 10 years of her life. Including her three kids. And the fact that she's since turned into a Real Housewife-like harpie, causing her husband to leave her. A fun mystery-lite escape novel.
Probably my favorite book in recent years. So appropriate for this chapter of my life...makes you stop and remember to appreciate life in the here and now.

I love all of Kate Morton's novels but this one is my favorite. She writes mystery novels that rely heavily on flashing forward and back in time in the UK. They are all slightly Gothic, painstakingly plotted, and romantic to some degree. I highly recommend them to Anglophiles and mystery/romance lovers everywhere.

~From another pinner: 'The Forgotten Garden' (2008) by Australian author Kate Morton. An enthralling story that begins with a little girl left on a dock with a with a curious white suitcase. A mystery that weaves back and forth from the 1900s, to the 1970's and to present day. It tells a multi-generational tale of three women and parcels out clues to the mystery that each woman uncovers or reveals. It grips you from the beginning!
