I'm LOVIN' this next idea. I got it from friend that teaches 6th grade. She used it for dictionary skills, which was fabulous. I decided to start it out in my classroom by using it for identifying story elements.
Great way to teach finding evidence from the text. After reading a book together as a class come up with an argument (ex. Julius is the Baby of the World) and have each class member look through the text to find and cite statements that support this argument. Then go through them as a class and talk about which statements supported the argument and which didn't.
