This gets me to thinking... what if we closed off the back side of the staircase so the basement was U-shaped instead of having a stairway coming down the middle of it?

Basement stairwell; I like the different texture (brick) as well as descending studio lights above. Also, archway over stairwell adds extra flare.

Ok so I'm not pinning this because it's a particularly groundbreaking idea. Just because it's from a basement redo and it gave me an idea. What if you did, like, a bunk room in your basement that was also a home theater? A couple of sets of bunk beds and some bean bag chairs would give everyone plenty of room to sit and then it could be a guest room for when lots of cousins came to visit.
