Sold by Patricia McCormick. I felt that Sold was a beautifully horrible book. I should explain! The descriptions and how it reads almost like poetry is wonderful and elegant. Meanwhile, the story of what is really going on is odious and dreadful. I feel lucky to not be in the middle of such atrocities.

The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman The backdrop of the story is true: Masada...formerly the palace of King Herod, where over 900 Jews held out against attacks from Rome in 70CE.
