Starship Troopers - 8/10 stars (gory, violent and totally kickass. Starship Troopers is without a doubt one of the wildest scifi rides you can take for the price of a movie rental!)

Starship Troopers 1997 was a great Sci Fi flick at the time. Watching it now, it feels a little campy & CVD can get a little annoying. What the film does well is present some great spaceship sequences & some pretty OK creature action. What is surprising about the film is how bloody it is. There is quite a bit of Bug on Trooper shredding on display that makes for some visceral fun. There are a lot of familiar faces in the cast that helps with celebrity spotting. Decent Sci Fi albeit a bit campy.

The Toxic Avenger - 4.5/10 stars (if you can watch this film without laughing profusely...then there is something wrong with you)

Dog Soldiers - 7/10 stars (funny accents, jar headed soldiers and werewolves? yes please)

Contact - 9/10 stars (with few cliches, this "first contact" story explores the realities of meeting an alien race)

The Abyss - 9/10 stars (combining originality and classic scifi storytelling, the Abyss is a creative and well crafted film)

Prometheus - 5/10 stars (critically overblown, visually stunning and utterly messy. Premetheus proves the long preached notion that nothing can save a good film from a bad script)

"Small Soldiers" is a children's film that depicted war between two sets of action figures. Critics were quick to criticize the darkness of the film, especially since it was marketed to children. Small soldiers is an example of how militarism is marketed to young children through pop culture artifacts, such as films.
