One of the two main ancient Sanskrit epics of India is the Ramayana; the other is the Mahabharata. The Ramayana, credited to the sage Valmiki, narrates the story of Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of the Hindu deity Vishnu, and his brave journey to save his wife Sita from the demon-king Ravana. The epic is told through a number of difficulties that Rama faces, including as his exile from the kingdom of Ayodhya, Ravana's kidnapping of Sita, and the final battle between Ravana's soldiers and Rama's army of monkeys.
