Shape Stories: A Creative Writing Activity

There are 30 different Shape Stories pages in this packet. Students are to use the given shape as a starting point, then incorporate it into a creative, illustrated scene! Students then write a description or short story based on their illustration. Voila! You have an EASY, NO-PREP creative writing activity that students love! This concept is similar to “squiggle” stories, but uses shapes instead. How To Use: 1. Choose a Shape Story template. 2. Start by tracing the given shape(s), then continue to transform the drawing space into a creative picture. 3. Give your drawing a title. 4. Write about your drawing on the lines provided. 5. Share with the class! When To Use: This packet is great to use in writing centers, as morning work or as a quick-write, homework, early finisher work, leave for a substitute teacher, or any way you see fit! It's neat to see how each student will come up with a different drawing based on the same shape!
