Antique French hand painted and gilded commode depicting a courting scene to front. Intricate scrolled floral relief carving to exterior. Side panels depict a vase and wand. 4 fitted shelves to interior. Locking mechanism to hinged door (key included). 19th century.

The silver case with floral repoussé panels containing 4 hinged doors above 5 drawers each inset with ivory panels decorated in the Shibayama style with birds and floral blossoms in carved coral and mother of pearl. The interiors decorated in Nasiji and gold hirdmaki-e, inlaid silver chop on base. Height 10 inches (25 cm).
