Hurricane Andrew slammed into the Florida coast as a Category 5 storm, destroying even the weather instruments meant to measure its strength. This image shows Andrew's progression from Aug. 23, 1992 (right) to Aug. 24 (middle) to Aug. 25 (left). Andrew's winds were clocked at 177 miles per hour (285 km) at least — instruments failed before recording maximum winds. The storm caused $26.5 billion in damage, second only to Hurricane Katrina in inflation-adjusted cost.

rom his vantage point high above the earth in the International Space Station, Astronaut Ed Lu captured this broad view of Hurricane Isabel....
Hurricanes can be devastating events to witness and experience from the ground. From the tranquility of space, however, they can be quite beautiful. This photograph, taken from the International Space Station, shows Hurricane Isabel as it headed for the East Coast of the United States in September 2003. Photographs of hurricanes viewed from above can provide details on the storm’s structure that scientists can use to better understand dynamics of the storm. (NASA)

Weather Pattern Over Kansas......Tornado and Rainbow Over Kansas - A white tornado cloud descends from a dark storm cloud. The Sun is peeking through a clear patch of sky to the left. Sunlight reflects off raindrops to form a rainbow. In an amazing spectacle, the tornado appears to end right over the rainbow. Streaks in the image are hail being swept about by the high swirling winds. – på lmage Credit: Eric Nguyen/Oklahoma U./NASA ('04).
