1959 - A fashion model in swimsuit poses at Matheson Hammock Park beach: Miami, Florida. "Inspiration from France and the Far East are combined in this lustre cotton swimsuit by Alix of Miami. Suit is white with soft pussy-willow print of tan and pale pink. Matching jacket is full and enveloping, set off by oversized collar. Coconut palms stand on Matheson Hammock, one of Dade County's public beaches on Biscayne Bay." Department of Commerce collection. State Library and Archives of Florida.

This is Mary F. Clifford, a student at Storer College in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia (1906). I think, although I’m not sure, that this is the daughter of J.R. Clifford, West Virginia’s first African American attorney, and original member of the Niagara Movement.
