My reflections from the TI:ME 2013 conference.
M-EDGE SuperStylus. Not an app, but a superb stylus for small hands, or hands with low muscle tone, to hold. Chunky, with good weight towards the tip and a soft grip. This can make touching the iPad screen much easier for students. Available in blue and pink. $23.98 at Amazon, also available at Staples stores for $19.99, but I don't see it on their web store yet. Low Muscle Tone, Pillow For Neck, Contour Pillow, Bamboo Pillow, Shoulder Pain Relief, Neck And Shoulder Pain, Foam Pillow, Side Sleeper, Blue Cases
Royal Therapy Memory Foam Pillow, Bamboo Pillow Shredded Odor-Free Pillow for Neck & Shoulder Pain Relief, Support for Back, Stomach, Side Sleepers, Orthopedic Contour Pillow, CertiPUR-US Certified

an animated video game with the title'fly and dodge to make music'on it
Wave Trip on the App Store
WAVE TRIP. Fun fly-and-dodge game in which you create the music as you play each level. Best for its included level designer, where you get to compose the music and then play your own composition. #ipadmusicapps ~ $1.99
a keyboard with music notes on it, and an app for playing the piano keys
SYNTHESIA. Learn to play simple piano repertoire in Guitar Hero game style, with descending colored bars above the piano keyboard. Includes notation and fingering suggestions! MIDI compatible, free, with option to unlock all content for $1.99. #ipadmusicapps
the synthesizer pro keyboard is shown in this screenshot
ISYNTHESIZER. Not the most glamorous or feature-filled synthesizer in the iTunes store, but maybe its simplicity is why it works so well for Special Needs students. Kids enjoy the sounds and can really get a lot from the different presets and altering the parameters. #ipadmusicapps - $2.99
a collage of different images with the words create music out of anything on it
MADPAD HD. An absolute favorite for kids. Sample any sounds into a grid and then make your own beats. The creative possibilities are enormous. #ipadmusicapps ~ $0.99
soundbrush music never looked so good - screenshots for ipad and ipod devices
SOUNDBRUSH. Beautiful app for drawing music. Relationship between line and sound is very clear - phenomenal app for encouraging kids to compose. #ipadmusicapps ~ $2.99
a computer screen with an electronic keyboard on it
SELINE ULTIMATE. Great for improvising over drones, with lush sounds and easy interface. It's actually possible to improvise yourself to sleep with your iPad. #ipadmusicapps ~ $0.99
an advertisement for the video game viamythm, which is being used to make videos
VIDRHYTHM. Follow simple well-paced instructions to record your own samples, and then the program makes them into a fun video. Lots of styles to choose from, with cool video effects. Amazing for getting autistic students to interact and have fun with the iPad. #ipadmusicapps ~ Free.
an image of different shapes and sizes on a black background, with the text in green
DRUM-O-RAMA HD. Sadly unknown gem of an app. In Drum-O-Rama you can create your own tabletop of percussion instruments, using different samples. Totally customizable with color, shape, size for each sound. All layouts can be saved, so you can create different set-ups for each student. Total no-brainer for including Special Needs children in class ensembles. #ipadmusicapps ~ $1.99
a red and black television screen with blue letters on it
MUSICAL AUTOHARP. Very well made autoharp app. Autoharps are great for including Special Needs students in Guitar Class, though the weight and size of the actual instrument can be difficult. This app is easy to play and sounds wonderful. Much easier to tune than a real autoharp as well! #ipadmusicapps ~ $0.99
an advertisement for the game tap the monsters to make music, with cartoon characters on it
MONSTER CHORUS. Unbelievably delightful app. Monsters sing as you touch them. You can also record your own voice and hear the monsters sing back with your voice! In-app purchase of song packs available. #ipadmusicapps ~ Free.
the letter g is placed on top of a red wooden paneled background with white letters
Glitchamaphone apps iOS
GLITCHAMAPHONE. Create your own loops with an easy step-sequencer and have them performed in concert with fun animated characters. Ability to save new compositions. #ipadmusicapps ~ $1.99

GARAGEBAND. Simply one of the best apps available for music making. Many included instruments allows for great variety of experience, and easy introduction to sequencing. Smart Instruments feature means music can be played with little formal instruction (great for music-challenged teaching assistants) and included sampler is amazing for kids recording themselves. #ipadmusicapps ~$4.99
an audio mixer with colorful lines on the top and bottom, as well as music equalizer buttons
ECHO STRING. Probably the best of the many harp/autoharp apps available. You can create up to seven partitions of diatonic chords, including sevenths. You can record performances in the app and play them back, even at double speed - so cool for kids to see. Free version allows three chords at once, full version includes MIDI export. #ipadmusicapps ~ $3.99
