So we created this journey mapping the inspirations for the album.

Etta's Tune / Inspired by Marshall and Etta Grant. Marshall died in August, 2011. It was a great loss, as he was like a surrogate dad for me. I was in Arkansas with him when he died, and spent a lot of time with Etta. He 'made one last rehearsal' three days before he died. They lived in Hernanado, Mississippi for many years, but never let go of their house on Nakomis Street in Memphis, where they had lived in the early days.

Money Road / Hwy 61 looms large in the imagination of musicians & in Dec '12, John & I took the trip. We started in Memphis then Oxford & Greenwood. We drove out on Money Road to find Robert Johnson's grave, then further to where Emmett Till supposedly flirted with a white woman & was murdered. Around the corner, the Tallahatchie Bridge- made famous in "Ode To Billie Joe". This one small area is a vortex of music, revolution & mystery. As we drove away, John said, 'we have to write a song about Money Road.'
