    Redd Foxx (born John Elroy Sanford), stand-up comedian and actor. He was best known for his starring role on Sanford and Son. He was called Red because of his reddish hair and complexion, and took the surname Foxx from baseball star Jimmie Foxx. He was one of the 1st black comics to play to white audiences in Las Vegas and became known as the "King of the party records," performing on over 50 records in his lifetime. His other work includes Cotton Comes to Harlem, and Harlem Nights. R.I.P.
