southsiders: The Legend of the Motorcycle
"Beautiful 1913 Scripps-Booth Bi-Autogo. A 3,200-lb. motorcycle with training wheels that lower at slow speeds for stability, a V8 engine and enough copper tubing to provide every hillbilly in the Ozarks with a still. The Bi-Autogo does enjoy the historical distinction of being the first V8-powered vehicle ever built in Detroit." via BoingBoing

Jay Leno is a certified Harley Davidson fan but unlike other celebrities who just love to ride their motorcycles, Leno, whose first job is that of a mechanic, is noted for being a hands-on Harley owner as he takes care of his motorcycle’s repair and maintenance. He owns several Harley motorcycles and loves to get on top and under his Harleys too.

Traub the World’s Rarest Motorcycle? At Wheels Through Time Museum. Found inside of a wall of an apartment in Chicago. To this day it is u known who built it. It is the only one in existence.
Everything inside the engine is just magnificent. The pistons are hand made, and have gap-less cast iron rings, the engineering and machining being simply years ahead of their time…. [it] doesn’t use any other form of gasket anywhere in the engine as it is so perfectly machined… the rear brake reveals a dual-acting single cam system/twin brake system [that] has never been used on any other American motorcycle.
This 1916 Traub was pulled out of a bricked-up wall over 40 years ago, and it's the only motorcycle of its kind ever found. Look no further Armored Mini Storage is the place when you’re out of space! traub motorcycle - Super #Motorbike
Mystery of the Traub Motorcycle- In 1967, a plumber doing renovations of an apartment building outside Chicago tore down a brick wall and found what would prove to be a baffling mystery to vintage motorcycle enthusiasts - a one-of-a-kind motorcycle bearing 1917 plates and the name "Traub". The building’s elderly owner admitted that his son had stolen the bike before going off to WWI, never to return. But where the bike came from and who made it remains a unknown to this day.

Abernathy kids [between ca. 1910 and ca. 1915]. Wish I coudl have been riding legal on the road at that age!
Louis Abernathy and Temple Abernathy (1904-1986) were children from Oklahoma who without adult supervision took several cross-country trips. On one trip they rode their motorcycle from Oklahoma to Manhattan in 1910 when they were 10 and 6 years old. (Wikipedia) @Chris Paynter: These are Free Range kids, old school style.
Bud and Temple Abernathy's last cross country trip was made in 1913 driving a custom designed, two-seat motorcycle from their Cross Roads Ranch to New York City. They returned to Oklahoma by train.
The Abernathy kids - in 1913 Louis (13) and Temple (9) (Butch) bought an Indian motorcycle and rode from Oklahoma to New York.

13 Rebels MC member Ardin Van Syckle. But! Standup guys, not hoodlums-- former flyers and servicemen from WWII looking to keep the rush alive. They were solid citizens who loved the sport and brotherhood of riding-- accomplished racers, builders and all-around honorable men. A 1953′s iconic biker flick: The Wild One starring Marlon Brando and Lee Marvin, was loosely based on two actual CA motorcycle clubs. When I was growing up men that road motorcycles weren't criminals. Just tough heroes!
My Dad bought a bike after he came home from WWII. He courted my Mom with bike rides, slow dancing, and singing in her ear. I have several pics of him similar to this nameless fella.
Wouldn't he look cool wearing our Star Tattoo tee?
