THIS 1,200-YEAR-OLD parchment Jewish prayer book, dated from the 9th-century and considered the oldest in existence (several hundred years older than the oldest Torah scrolls, but later than the Dead Sea Scrolls) was revealed Sept. 27 by a private collector of Biblical artifacts.
15. Jerome (240-340) was one of the greatest scholars of the ancient world. He was a genius from an early age but decides to give up his library of books when he has a dream that they are too important in his life. He becomes a hermit and taught himself Hebrew; he translated the Bible into the Latin Vulgate Bible in 380.
