The Coliseum. Rome, Italy. An absolutely fantastic building. Beautiful beautiful architecture. Still, being there you can feel the enormous fear that ones filed the building. Men left with nothing but hope and despair. I can't imagine the horror and fear they must have felt only to enjoy the people and amuse an insane emperor.

Why we travel - The history of Wanderlust

Take a trip with us exploring the history of travel and tourism from the days of the grand tour to the birth of modern tourism with trains and aeroplanes.

In 1578 news came of a discovery in Rome of a labyrinth of underground tombs, thought to hold the remains of early Christian martyrs. Skeletons were sent to Catholic churches & religious houses in German-speaking Europe to replace holy relics that had been destroyed during the Reformation. The “catacomb saints,” were reassembled, richly dressed w/ crowns, jewels, & armor. Posed inside churches & shrines as reminders to the faithful of the heavenly treasures that awaited them after death.
