Lonely Ice in the Fading Light... As we went for out final spin in the zodiac that day I saw this ice formation off in the distance and asked our driver to navigate towards it. As we approached I could see the beautiful reflection in the water and we had to do it slowly as to not disturb the water too much. Luckily I was able to grab this shot before the waves from the zodiac took away the reflection.
It is as beautiful as it is rare. A frost flower is created on autumn or early winter mornings when ice in extremely thin layers is pushed out from the stems of plants or occasionally wood. This extrusion creates wonderful patterns which curl and fold into gorgeous frozen petioles giving this phenomenon both its name and its appearance.
