The first job I had at the museum was working with a collection of more than 3,000 objects from Puerto Rico, all collected by Teodoro Vidal. The longtime collector and dedicated amateur historian passed away on January 17, 2016, at the age of 92.
Remembering collector Teodoro Vidal, who preserved Puerto Rican history and culture in the national collection
A beautiful picture from one of Puerto Rico's many art galleries, which depicts the old fashioned Puerto Rican "Jibaro" singing to the lady of his dreams. For more on history of the "Jibaro" see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jibaro
1. Jíbaro: The show begins with a Jíbaro dance and music from the mountains of central Puerto Rico. It’s still a popular style. 2. Unique Instruments: The dance performance is backed by a talented musical group that plays typical Puerto Rican instruments, including a cuatro, the guitar-like instrument, the guiro, a hollow gourd, maracas, guitars and conga drums.
