A highlight was Gen. Romeo Dallaire speaking about child soldiers and about his experiences during the genocide in Rwanda, where he was the commander of the UN peacekeeping mission and stayed when the rest of the world left. He suffered horrible trauma because of it with PTSD. He wrote "Shake Hands with the Devil" which was a book that changed my life forever. Some many people, especially Canadians have a deep admiration for him and it doesn't surprise me why.

In May of this year, I reunited with Kaylie Jones, my dear friend who came to Miami. I wore my favorite outfit: pink tunic and navy blue tights. Who would have thought that I'd wear the same outfit meeting Gen. Dallaire a month later. Never in my wildest dreams. Two writes whom I deeply admire and have inspired me and whose stories continue to inspire me. The photo on the right is of the participants of the training program for MIGS.

Another one of my favorite books and one that has also inspired me was "They Fight Like Soldiers, They Die Like Soldiers" about child soldiers. I highly recommend this book.

My copy of "Shake Hands with the Devil" has a deeper meaning, with his signature and writing my name. I keep staring at it, as I did when the plane took off from Montreal and in route to Miami.

Returning to Miami, a bittersweet and tearful return home. But the sunset from the plane was beautiful.
