French-Canadian mother, Elzire Dionne, gave birth to five identical girls — Annette, Emilie, Yvonne, Cecile, and Marie. the quints were made wards of the Ontario government (the parents were deemed unfit to raise them). A hospital, known as "Quintland" was built Dionne's home. Nurses would bring them one at a time to a balcony to show them to the waiting crowd.

The Story of the Dionne Quintuplets My parents took me to this museum when I was a child. Fascinating & a very sad story surrounding this family
The Dionne quintuplets (May 28, 1934) are the first quintuplets known to survive their infancy. They were born outside Callander, Ontario, Canada. Four months after the birth the Ontario gov. found the parents to be unfit. (not having enough money) for the quintuplets. Custody of the five babies were taken over by the Ontario government in 1935. They realized the popularity of the sisters and proceeded to build a tourist trade around them. The girls were held until the age of 18.
The Dionne quintuplets are the only known set of identical quintuplets. Here they are with Dr. Alan Roy Dafoe. He pretty much ruined their lives. He was instrumental in convincing the government of Ontario that their parents were unable to properly care for them and that they should be cared for in a special facility. That facility became Quintland. Quintland was a tourist attraction where the girls were put on display and people payed to see them like animals in a zoo.

This service cap was specifically designed for the Army Nurse Corps in 1942. Known at the time as the "new service cap," it was made of different types of materials to match either the winter olive drab, summer beige or dress white uniforms. This cap was worn with the winter uniform. The Army Nurse Corps cap is a distinctive item for nurses only. Learn more: bit.ly/zoLVy0
