C-section newborn with amniotic sac intact. The baby still breaths & feeds from the placenta, it doesn't even "know" it has been born yet. Beautiful and rare picture.
Amazing, Babies, Amniotic Sac, Photo, Baby Born, Newborn, Doctor
Amazing! A newborn baby in its fully intact amniotic sac was captured in a photo by Greek obstetrician Dr. Aris Tsigiris. This type of "veiled birth" is extremely rare, but the healthy baby can begin breathing as soon as the sac is ruptured.
Holy shit! Greek doctor snapped this photo in an unusual situation where the amniotic sac stayed in tact during a c section. The baby continues to get oxygen & nutrients from the placenta until the sac breaks. In the meantime, the baby doesn't even realize it's own birth.
A Greek doctor snapped this amazing image during a caesarian section. Unusually, the amniotic sac remained intact as the birth progressed. Typically it breaks, but this time it did not -leading to the baby not even being aware it had been born. Until the amniotic sac breaks, the baby will continue to receive oxygen and nutrients from the placenta. This baby was born safe and healthy.
Doctor snaps photo of baby born in amniotic sac... A Greek doctor has photographed an extremely rare moment during a birth, showing a baby still encased inside the amniotic sac after it has been removed from the mother's body.
A Greek doctor took this amazing rare photo of a baby born by Caesarian encapsulates in the amniotic sac. The waters didn't break before the delivery.
Doctor snaps photo of baby born in amniotic sac. Dr Aris Tsigris published the photo of the newborn on his Facebook page on March 12 after delivering the baby via caesarean section in Amarousion, north of Athens. Dr Tsigris said that the baby did not even realise it had been born yet.
operating room C section: A Greek doctor snapped this amazing image during a caesarian section. The amniotic sac remained intact around the baby. I have never seen this. Typically it breaks or is broken before the baby is pulled out of the uterus. Until the amniotic sac breaks, the baby will continue to receive oxygen and nutrients from the placenta. This baby was born safe and healthy.

Dr Aris Tsigris published the photo of the newborn on his Facebook page ... of the amniotic sac remaining completely intact after birth was "ultra rare" ... The doctor said there was no risk to the baby as it was still feeding off the .placenta. Awesome and beautiful photo.

Camel thorn trees in Namibia: The above image, by Frans Lanting was published by National Geographic about five years ago, and ever since has been fooling viewers into thinking it's a painting, rather than a photograph. The altered perspective of a telephoto lens positioning the trees against a sunset-illuminated giant sand dune is really quite startling.

Astronaut Bruce McCandless II, doing the first ever untethered spacewalk in history in 1984, where he floated out free of the spacecraft without any lifeline attachment to it. Nowadays, NASA spacewalking suits utilize something known as the “SAFER” system (Simplified Aid For EVA Rescue) attachment, which is much smaller and less powerful, but will still allow an astronaut doing a spacewalk who might accidentally become unattached from their tether to maneuver back to the ISS.
100 meters from the cargo bay of the space shuttle Challenger, Bruce McCandless II was farther out than anyone had ever been before. Guided by a Manned Maneuvering Unit, astronaut McCandless, pictured above, was floating free in space. McCandless and fellow NASA astronaut Robert Stewart were the first to experience such an "untethered space walk" during Space Shuttle mission 41-B in 1984. The MMU works by shooting jets of nitrogen and has since been used to help deploy and retrieve satellites.

Reddit front page, 12/13/13. The Hubble Extreme Deep Field is a picture taken by NASA over several weeks. They aimed the Hubble Telescope at a completely black spot in the night sky. And then they waited weeks for the telescope to collect all the light that it could, and it returned that image. That is an image of a fraction of the night sky, a tiny, tiny portion, where there is already no visible light, and it is literally teeming with far-off galaxies.

The Hubble Extreme Deep Field, an extreme close-up of a teeny-teeny-tiny section of our night sky. Almost every point of light is a galaxy. Incredibly humbling once you consider it for a bit.
The eXtreme Deep Field, assembled from a decade of observations by the Hubble Space Telescope, is our deepest look into the universe yet.
EXtreme Deep Field (XDF). "Thanks to a 10-year photo shoot by the Hubble Space Telescope, astronomers have produced an image that NASA calls "mankind's deepest-ever view of the universe." Named the eXtreme Deep Field (XDF), it contains about 5,500 galaxies, most of which are pictured as relative infants since their light takes eons to reach Earth."
The Hubble Extreme Deep Field is a photo of an extremely small portion of the night sky, and yet is estimated to contain ~5,000 galaxies.

2012 Hubble eXtreme Deep Field ------ Like photographers assembling a portfolio of best shots, astronomers have assembled a new, improved portrait of mankind's deepest-ever view of the universe. Called the eXtreme Deep Field, or XDF, the photo was assembled by combining 10 years of NASA Hubble Space Telescope photographs taken of a patch of sky at the center of the original Hubble Ultra Deep Field. The XDF is a small fraction of the angular diameter of the full Moon. The Hubble Ultra Deep Field is an image of a small area of space in the constellation Fornax, created using Hubble Space Telescope data from 2003 and 2004. By collecting faint light over many hours of observation, it revealed thousands of galaxies, both nearby and very distant, making it the deepest image of the universe ever taken at that time. The new full-color XDF image reaches much fainter galaxies and includes very deep exposures in red light from Hubble's new infrared camera, enabling new studies of the earliest galaxies in the universe. The XDF contains about 5,500 galaxies even within its smaller field of view. The faintest galaxies are one ten-billionth the brightness of what the human eye can see. Mission: hubble
In early November, a small ad appeared in a UK newspaper announcing the death of Harold Percival, a veteran with no close family to attend his funeral. The Internet took control, and the clip quickly went viral. On November 11 (Veterans Day in the US and Armistice Day in the UK), over 300 strangers were in attendance to pay their respects to the 99-year-old former World War II airman. This image, taken at the funeral, once again exemplifies the amazing power of the Internet.

This picture is so sad. Little kid can't go to the Zoo because of the government shutdown.
Media manipulation – a quick glance, a quick judgment. Blink. It was a picture of a little boy, seen from the back, standing on the closed gate of a zoo. There is something sad about this picture, but not the shutdown. It’s that a father took his son out for a walk in the neighborhood and sent a funny snapshot to his wife, she put it up on Instagram, someone else put it up on Facebook, someone else put it up on Reddit, and within hours he was fair game for news commenters around the nation.
She broke his achey breaky heart.

Half albino peacock; It’s a chimera (twins that are mixed into one animal instead of becoming two separate bodies. This can even happen with people!) Very rare and beautiful
Photo "title" says "Half Albino Peacock", but there's no such thing. It's either a hybrid between a normal peacock and a white peacock (not albino), or a chimera. It isn't clear which . . . but what IS clear is that this bird is STUNNING!
Peacocks can be both white and blue! 1) A white peacock is not the same as an albino peacock. 2) You can breed an albino peacock with a regular blue peacock and make one crazy looking bird. #animal #creature #life #feather

Half Albino Peacock - I need this bird in my life now!! so bizarre & freakishly awesome! So beautiful!!!
Half Albino Peacock- Often referred to as an albino peacock, it is nothing of the sort. It's technically a white peacock which is a genetic variant of the Indian Blue Peafowl. The colors in the feathers of a bird are determined two factors: pigment and structure. its unusual lack-of-color is due to a missing pigment. This missing pigment is dark and absorbs incident light, making diffracted and interference light visible.

MumbleyJoe captured this 114 second photo of Pigeon Point Lighthouse in California that is only possible on one night per year during a 20 minute window. Once per year the lighthouse turns off its modern lighting equipment and switches to the kerosene lanterns it used 135 years ago. To please photographers there is a 20 minute delay before the lens begins rotating when the lanterns are fired up.

Long Exposure of a Lighthouse - The Meta Picture
Photo by MumbleyJoe (Tyler Westcott) Pigeon Point Lighthouse Once per year at the Pigeon Point Lighthouse they shut down the weak insipid modern aerobeacon light and switch over to the 1kilowatt lamp (which replaced the older oil-burning lamps) and fresnel lens of the original, restoring its appearance to what it was 135 years ago. Taken November 17, 2007, San Mateo County, CA. When they fire it up there's really a collective sense of "whoa!" from the audience (which was WAY bigger than I expected - I probably had to park a mile away and I was there an hour early). Capturing a shot like this is tricky because the lens itself actually rotates, which looks great but is tough for long exposures. But for the first 5 minutes they leave it static to indulge all of the photographers who turn out and want this shot (this highly unique and one-of-a-kind shot of course). When they switched to this light my camera still had about a minute of noise reduction to do on my final test shot to get the exposure right, so I missed the first minute. Then I started this shot which was about 2 minutes long, followed by 2 minutes of noise reduction again. So by the time I had my shot it was too late for a do-over. So this is it, I only got to take one photo and this is what I got, so I hope it worked out. It's also noteworthy that the fog last night was insane, even for a San Francisco local. On the drive home there were times when I couldn't see the road in front of me, only the orange reflectors in the middle of the road (for about 60ft). It worked out beautifully for viewing the lighthouse, though I also found that if I backed away much further than this I'd lose sight of the lighthouse itself. The unfortunate consequence of all the fog was that it was almost impossible to keep the lens and camera dry, so the lesson learned was to always keep towels with you when shooting the California coast. And in case you're wondering, that is the moon in the upper left.
