Sutton Hoo

  • 11 Pins

Sutton Hoo, near Woodbridge, in the English county of Suffolk, is the site of two 6th- and early 7th-century cemeteries. One contained an undisturbed ship burial including a wealth of Anglo-Saxon artifacts of outstanding art-historical and archaeological significance, now held in the British Museum in London. www.heritagedaily...

Excavations by Hjalmar Stolpe revealed 14 graves in and just beyond the south-east corner of Vendel churchyard in the Swedish province of Uppland. This helmet is from a 7th century ship burial and is very similar to the Sutton Hoo helmet.
