The Uighur (also spelled "Uyghur", pronounced WEE-gur) are a Turkic ethnic group who live in East and Central Asia. Most  reside in an autonomous region in the Xinjiang province of China. A few have red or blond hair like Melik and Sinan in OMAW. The Noor in OMAW are *not* Uyghur, but they were inspired by conversations my sister (who has lived in China for the past 10 years) and I had about how this ethnic group is sometimes perceived and treated in China.

Dying hair with henna (hanabandan) is a very ancient Iranian tradition.
