The Winged Victory of Samothrace (also the Nike of Samothrace), circa 220-190 BC is a marble sculpture of the Greek goddess Nike (Victory). Since 1884, it has been prominently displayed at the Louvre #Paris and is one of the most celebrated sculptures in the world. More: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winged_Victory_of_Samothrace
The Winged Victory of Samothrace, also called the Nike of Samothrace, is a 2nd century BC marble sculpture of the Greek goddess Nike (Victory). It is one of the most celebrated sculptures in the world, and has been displayed at the Louvre since 1884. Despite its significant damage and incompleteness, the Victory is held to be one of the great surviving masterpieces of sculpture from the Hellenistic period, and from the entire GrecoRoman era. The statue shows a mastery of form and movement. *
The Nike of Samothrace. I would LOVE to go to Paris and see this at the Louvre. In person-not just in an old art history book.

It looks like any old roller coaster, with curves and heart-stopping loops. But instead of zooming by, people are walking—on inclines fitted with steps. This creation in Germany's Rhine Valley is an interactive sculpture, but it’s also one of the world’s most unique staircases.

David Spriggs’ Vision (Acrylic paint on multiple sheets of transparent film in display case, 2009) has a distinct focus on the senses. Accentuated by an affinity between its subject matter and the fragmentary nature of the medium, there is a tension created between form and emptiness. Appearing both as an implosion and as an explosion depending on the one’s perception, the viewer has the sense that he/she is observing a form in becoming, yet at the same time breaking down.

Vision by David Sprigg David Sprigg‘s art pieces are referred to as “stratachromes”. I.e. “An image or object developed or executed in multiple planes or layers of color.” Working within that newly pioneered process, Sprigg creates monumental, luminescent 3D paintings that are equally mesmerizing from every angle.

The Yellow Scale by Franz Kupka (1871-1957) a Czech avant-garde painter who lived in Paris. The man in yellow is Charles Baudelaire.

"The Yellow Scale" |Artist Franz Kupka -a Czech avant-garde painter living in Paris.|~|The painting is a mixture of realism & abstraction. It depicts a portrait, but the painting technique consists of a feast of violent slashes of yellow impasto. This was a work of the transitional stage of Kupka's oeuvre when he moved from an impressionistic style to the world of abstraction. The lounger is *Charles Baudelaire*-the French decadent poet, based on one of Nadar's daguerreotype photographs.|'h4d'
Frantisek Kupka, Self-Portrait, 1907. František Kupka (Sept.23, 1871 Opočno, eastern Bohemia (now Czech Republic) – June 24, 1957 (aged 85) Puteaux, France), also known as Frank Kupka or François Kupka, was a Czech painter and graphic artist. He was a pioneer and co-founder of the early phases of the abstract art movement and Orphic cubism (Orphism). Kupka's abstract works arose from a base of realism, but later evolved into pure abstract art.
Yellow Scale. Kupka: 1907, I believe. It can be seen and admired in the Fine Arts Museum of Houston
The Yellow Scale (1907) by Franz Kupka ---- Although it is provocative to view The Yellow Scale as a self-portrait, the true subject of this riveting work is the color yellow. The intense hues combine with František Kupka’s confident gaze, the book in one hand, cigarette in the other, to convey a strong sense of the artist’s personality. František Kupka (Sept 23, 1871–June 24, 1957), Czech painter, graphic artist, pioneer and co-founder of the early phases of the abstract art movement. Kupka had a strong interest in color theory and freeing colors from descriptive associations. Margit Rowell described his painting The Yellow Scale (c. 1907) as "Kupka's first attempt to come to terms with color theory in which the result is both personal and successful." Although a self-portrait, the subject of the painting was the color yellow.
