I adore the Dollar Tree and I especially love their teacher section! Teaching goodies + $1 = a very happy teacher! Recently, I found these adorable sight word dice. Each pack comes with 3 different dice that include a lot of our kindergarten sight words! I picked up 2 packs and solved a pretty great algebraic equation to figure out how many sight words I got in all ;) {36 in case you're wondering ;)} I whipped up a recording sheet real quick using my favorite DJ inkers numbers and had an instant writing center! My kids had a blast rolling the dice, reading the words and using them in a sentence. They are becoming pretty great sentence builders! {look at those finger spaces!} I copied the recording sheets back to back so that there was room to write 6 sentences. Most of my students were able to complete 3 in the 20 minutes they had at centers. Then they stuck their recording sheet in the finish it folders in their cubbies to use the next time they're at writing center. Only one little stinker stuck a pencil through the foam dice {because it is ohso tempting and because Miss Maor failed to go over expectations before hand ;)} You can download the recording sheet for this center below. And if you can't find the sight word dice, you could always make your own using this dice template! I also found this great center idea on Pinterest last week. It was really simple to put together! I just wrote some of our sight words on jumbo craft sticks, and stuck some pipe cleaners and our letter beads into the basket. The kiddos pick a sight word stick, read the word and build it with the letter beads. These two cuties worked together to build a sentence and then asked me to take their picture {I can't imagine why ;)} I am so, so proud of my little smarties! We are working hard these last 30 days of school!

It’s super easy to make too! Just some popsicle sticks and plastic coins. You can use stickers too – I like the coins because the kids can feel the edges. I used a large “nut” container, and the popsicle sticks fit PERFECTLY inside – you can even put the lid on for storage! Hot glue (or super glue!) the coins on to the sticks. On a couple of the sticks write “Bankrupt. ” Kids sit in a circle and pass the can around – when it is their turn, the child takes one and says the name of the co...

Miss Kindergarten: Daily Schedule and Some Math Centers
Hi friends! I've been getting a lot of questions about my daily schedule so it just worked out perfectly that one of my bloggy besties Susan threw a Daily Schedule Linky Party! I'll share my schedule with you, then go check out her blog and take a peek at the other schedules that are linked up! My Daily Schedule: Early Birds attend from 8:0011:20 {and we don't stop moving!} Late Birds attend from 10:201:40 Every morning I pull my reading intervention group while the rest of the class works on their literacy centers for the week. During literacy centers we work on handwriting, phonics, read to self, listening to reading, art, and more! I have a whole post dedicated to our literacy centers that you can see {here}. After our morning centers, we move onto our Language Arts focus for the week. We follow Houghton Mifflin curriculum and supplement where we need to, to incorporate common core and other important skills. Our next 30 minute block is shared between math, social studies, science and art. We integrate science and social studies into most of our day, so we do tend to focus a lot on math and art. We are able to offer our students ample opportunities to work on following and listening to directions, and fine motor practice. Here's some of the math centers we've been working on the last few weeks. We practice onetoone correspondence and writing our numbers 16. We all sat in a circle, while one student rolled the number cube and counted the candy. Then we ALL traced over the number that was rolled. Then we passed the cube to the next person. This was such a fun game! {this activity is from my Halloween Games and Centers} How fun are these cubes!? I always just make my own cubes for my centers, but they NEVER hold up and I just have to remake them every year. So when Erica shared about her friend's KiddoCubes, I KNEW I had to get my hands on them quick! These are 4"x4" and the perfect size for little hands. It's super easy to slide the pictures you want in and they match my classroom colors! {bonus!} If you are looking for some cubes for your class {for math OR literacy centers} I highly recommend these! We also worked on writing and representing our numbers. I just love write & wipe pockets! {this is from my Number Practice unit} {this is from my Let's Learn our Numbers unit} I found these awesome number stamps in the Target dollar spot last year. They are so fun because they're dotted, so the kids stamp AND then trace the numbers! {stamping unit coming soon!} The early birds are at snack and specials while the late birds are doing math. Then we have our 20 minute overlap for sharing, star of the week and calendar math. Have more questions? Please leave me a comment or send me an email and I will do my best to answer! Now head on over to Susan's blog and share your daily schedule!
