The iconic 1950s diner brings to mind the idea of drive ins, Nash Ramblers, and checkerboard floors. With the rise of fast food giants like McDonald’s (which, ironically enough, was one of the first small, family-owned drive ins), and the globalized food economy, the cozy diners soon lost their luster to consumers and, though they’ve been replicated by plenty of modern restaurants, the drive-in diner died out and was replaced by big business.
