Jane Seymour as Michaela "Mike" Quinn on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman
Pretty Shield (1856–1944) was a medicine woman of the Crow Nation. Her autobiography was written with the help of Frank B. Linderman, who interviewed her using an interpreter and sign language. This book was perhaps the first record of the women’s side of Native American life. The Pretty Shield Foundation is named in her honor.
Medicine Woman - Medicine means the magical power of fate, healing magic and medicine. Women were the first midwives and shamans, welcoming the newly arrived and preparing sacred rituals for the departed. The Medicine Woman holds the Moon in her hands. She trusts Divine Timing. She knows that all things that once were will be again. From: The Book of Goddesses by Nancy Blair
