A shot of one of our #deconstruction crews salvaging a home today in Charlotte, NC! These guys just finished up carefully dismantling a home in Raleigh and will be heading to a project in Boca Raton, FL on Saturday. They are led by Big Santos (lower left) who has risen through our ranks over the years and is a remarkable trainer. Great to see the guys getting vocational development while saving tons of materials from the landfill and providing them to be sold at a discount for #reuse instead! Congratulations to the City of Pittsburgh on their newly passed deconstruction policy! On April 21st, Mayor Bill Peduto signed an executive order calling for the city to create a process for identifying deconstruction-eligible structures among the 1,700 condemned buildings in Pittsburgh. The policy will pilot deconstruction on city-owned properties and city facilities, but will also create standards for recovery and recycling of materials for city-funded demolitions. #SundaySustainability - "Process uses drywall waste to create bricks" Researchers at Washington State University and DTG Recycling Group have developed a process that pulverizes drywall scrap, mixes it with water and binders, then presses it into bricks that can be made on- or off-site with existing equipment.
