Yosemite Valley Art Print by Albert Bierstadt at Art.com
Oakland Museum of California is one of Northern California's best kept secrets!
Painted in 1868 by the Hudson River School artist Albert Bierstadt, Yosemite Valley, Yellowstone National Park, records a moment in time that preserves a glimpse into nature’s glory. Compared with Zao Wou-Ki’s two paintings flanking either side, we see a similar yellow light that seems to be just emerging in all three of these paintings.

Henry Walton Bibb (Cantalonia, Kentucky, May 10, 1815 – 1854) was an American author and abolitionist who was born a slave. He was born to an enslaved woman, Milldred Jackson, on a Cantalonia, Kentucky, plantation on May 10, 1815. After escaping from slavery to Canada, he founded an abolitionist newspaper, The Voice of the Fugitive. He returned to the US and lectured against slavery. As he was growing up, Bibb saw each of his six younger siblings, all boys, sold away to other slaveholders.
