Close-up of the 1912/13 Jeanne Hallée evening gown. The Met describes the materials used as: (a) silk, metallic thread, glass beading; (b, c) silk, leather, metallic thread. I presume the leather is the basis for the large flower decoration in front.

Dancing Bar in Baden-Baden (1923). Max Beckmann (German, Expressionism, 1884-1950). Oil on canvas. Bayerische Staatsgemaldesammlungen, Munich. Stephan Lackner writes: “The rhythm and sparkle of this picture are reminiscent of a Stravinsky tango. There is sarcasm, but also fun and fascination. Sharp dissonances are held together by an exhilarating beat. The colors are iridescent like an oil film on a puddle, subtly indicating Beckmann’s social criticism of the upper crust..."
'Dancing Bar in Baden-Baden', 1923 - Max Beckmann. German painter, draughtsman, printmaker and teacher. He was one of the most important German painters of the 20th century. He was initially influenced by traditional styles, but during World War I he rejected perspective and classical proportion in favour of a more expressive objective art. He was persecuted by the Nazis in the 1930s but continued to work, painting his celebrated secular triptychs in the late 1930s and the 1940s.
