Bingham House, c.1854, Talladega, Alabama
Arthur Bingham built this beautiful home in 1854. Arthur Bingham was a local industrialist, Republican, Mason, and town leader. Active in politics, he served as the State Treasurer after the Civil War. He also operated a cabinet store, flour mill, and machine shop on the lot where the Big Springs Monument now stands. Bingham published The Sun newspaper in the Plowman Building, on the N.W. corner of Battle and Court Streets. This grandiose mansion was built using the peg and auger method.
